03 · The story
Heirloom started in the gap between distance and memory.
I’m in Brisbane. My grandmother Valerie is the keeper of our family’s history — an iPad full of photos, stories she loves to tell, moments she wants to share. But I don’t see her often, and there’s never enough time to hear them all. I come from a blended family, spread out, and really seeing the people I care about as their lives unfold takes constant effort.
Years ago, my mum told me one of her regrets was not capturing more of my childhood. My sister is raising my nephew now, and I don’t want those years to slip by the same way — I want to watch him grow up, not just hear about it later. My friends are scattered across the globe — Melbourne, Hong Kong, Sydney — and I want their real moments too, not just whatever fits a social-media profile.
So I built Heirloom: a private timeline where the people you care about most share their memories — a photo or video, with the story typed or spoken into its caption — and you actually see them. Not filtered by an algorithm, not buried in a public feed, not built to optimise your attention. Just the stories of the people you love.
Some things are meant to be kept.
